Annie’s Playhouse Presents…

DIRECTOR'S NOTE:
We’ve always used our April showcase as a chance to channel our students’ talents into upbeat pop tunes and more contemporary musicals that match the brighter days and warmer temps around us. Unity, togetherness, joining as one to solve problems and celebrate… that’s what all of these vignettes embody.

SpongeBob SquarePants the Musical tells the story of three best friends who work together to solve their town’s impending apocalypse and learn to be the heroes of their own story in the process, ignoring the naysayers. High School Musical (…in all its forms…) captures the spirit of working as a team to put on a show and to love what you’re doing unashamedly and celebrate the thing that brings us joy. Sprinkled into the mix for our youngest performers are some classic songs from Sesame Street, the place where so many of us learned about tolerance and accepting one another, and simply telling the ones we care about that we love them.

Our three pop icons that our dancers are grooving to today bring us together too, in moments of fun and celebration. (….seriously though, does anyone have an extra ticket to Taylor?…) And finally, the musical Mean Girls throws us into the dangerous drama jungle that is high school, where we learn what it’s like to stand by our true friends, to admit when we might have made mistakes, and to see every individual for the star they are.

The arts thrive on collaboration; on working together; on recognizing the importance of every individual. Every show that gets put on is only as strong as its weakest link and it’s when everyone is firing on all cylinders that the magic truly happens. We love seeing our students grow in confidence, testing their potential, and celebrating what brings them joy as one. It brightens us everyday here at the Playhouse watching all of these stars shine and I hope this Showcase brightens your day today.

Here’s to a beautiful spring full of whatever brings you joy!
~Mr. Steven
